School Background

The John Curwen Co-operative Academy aim to provide a secure, friendly yet disciplined environment in which every individual student is able to develop their full potential and thrive under Y-OUR Co-operative values. We expect high standards of work, behaviour and dress from all our students and I am very proud of the way they represent the Academy in so many areas of excellence, within and beyond the curriculum. We are also fortunate to have a well qualified and committed staff who contribute to a high quality learning environment and the benefit of a strong tradition of partnership with the local community and our parents. In return, the Academy strapline, Y-OUR, clearly states what we stand for and offer you: Yorkshire, open to all, unlocking potential, raising aspirations.

School’s Previous Lighting Situation

The John Curwen Co-operative Academy was fitted with a mixture of florescent fittings which are now hard to get hold of. Many lamp failures meant insufficient lighting for staff and pupils in the learning environment. RS Lighting have now completed a full LED Lighting install using 600×600 lay in panels which not only improves the learning and working environment it makes the school look brand new!

Funding

The School funded their LED Lighting scheme using SEEF ( Salix Energy Efficiency Fund). Salix, in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE), works to reduce energy usage in individual academies, sixth form colleges, free schools and Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) across England. Through the installation of energy efficient technologies, academies can lower energy bills and create a more comfortable learning environment.

End Result

With over 495 LED lamps installed, The John Curwen Co-operative Academy have now improved classroom lighting, reduced energy consumption and requires zero hours of maintenance time changing lamps.

End Result

St Georges School had 2779 old fluorescent lights replaced with brighter more natural LEDS. This has helped improve the school’s classroom learning environment and helped the school benefit from reduced energy consumption and requires zero hours of maintenance time changing lamps. These savings can be reinvested into the school.

RS Lighting were great from start to end. They completed and managed our SEEF application all the way through. We were not successful in the first round of funding but RS Lighting continued to support us throughout. We then got the funding in the 2nd round tranche and RS Lighting completed all relevant documents on behalf of the school and carried out a fantastic install. They were polite, professional and all round great company to work for us and would recommend them to any other schools who are thinking about changing over to LED Lighting.
